Friends, we are beyond pleased to announce that pre-orders for The Adventure Zone: Bureau of Balance game are now open! Designed by Twogether Studios’ Keith Baker and Jenn Ellis, and illustrated by Hari Conner, TAZ: Bureau of Balance is a storytelling card game that lets you and your friends build your own stories in the world of The Adventure Zone: Balance. It’s an easy to learn and accessible game that doesn’t require any experience with fantasy roleplaying games or deep knowledge of The Adventure Zone; all you need is a few friends, an hour, and a little creativity. (Don’t worry, you will get to roll a twenty sided die!)
In developing Bureau of Balance Jenn & Keith wanted to focus on creating something that is extremely accessible, that brings people together, and that creates joy without getting bogged down in numbers and rules. TAZ: Bureau of Balance uses a modular system to dynamically generate missions. One night you might fight sarcastic specters as you make your way through haunted caverns, while your next mission may pit you against cunning gerblins on a train racing towards a perilous destination. With twelve decks of double-sided cards as a foundation, TAZ: Bureau of Balance provides you with more than a hundred and twenty hours of unique challenges.
The game costs $39.95 and is available for pre-order today through January 24th. We’re planning on having the game printed and ready to ship in August 2020. If you pre-order you’ll become a member of The Reclaimer Club with exclusive perks and rewards, including additional Fantasy Kostco loot, and other special cards you’ll get to suggest ideas for!
There is also a Limited Edition of the game available for pre-order that will come in a special box with cover art featuring The Voidfish, embellished with iridescent spot foil accents. It will also feature 4 additional custom D20’s, 5 upgraded player assist coins, and a 3D Fantasy Kostco card holder. The Limited Edition will only be available via this pre-order, and costs $59.95.
Twogether Studios is the brainchild of Jenn Ellis and Keith Baker. Their goal is to create games that bring people together, encouraging creativity and storytelling while maintaining a high standard of product quality. With Illimat they created a modern classic that feels as though it could be a hundred years old, while Action Cats focuses on the pure joy of telling ridiculous stories about cats. With The Adventure Zone: Bureau of Balance they blend Keith’s decades of experience with storytelling and roleplaying games and Jenn’s insight into product design and user experience to create something unique and entertaining. We’re thrilled with the work they’ve done on this game, and cannot wait for y’all to get your hands on it, too.
If you want to see the game in action, we have a number of livestreams planned, but right now you can check out this archived stream from Loading Ready Run:
